Article: Oxy-Nitriding AISI 304 Stainless Steel by Plasma Electrolytic Surface Saturation to Increase Wear Resistance

چکیده

AISI 304 SS has good corrosion resistance in a variety of environments but does not have to wear. Aggressive marine require materials that can withstand both the biocorrosion and wear associated with impact waves, ocean currents suspended particles. Oxy-nitriding stainless steels be used increase their hardness resistance. The conventional oxy-nitriding process is lengthy, temperature involved affect material. To mitigate these problems, it was decided study an plasma electrolytic conditions, using aqueous solutions 20, 30 40 wt% urea. results showed all concentrations evaluated gave lower levels than untreated steel. However, considering amount urea environmental emissions from waste generated, concentration 20% by weight electrolyte considered sufficient up three times XRD, XPS microscopy analyses that, main, outermost layer steel surface treated morphology small craters chromium iron oxy-nitrides. A nitrogen diffusion also seen below oxy-nitrided layer.

Surface Texturing-Plasma Nitriding Duplex Treatment for Improving Tribological Performance of AISI 316 Stainless Steel

Surface texturing-plasma nitriding duplex treatment was conducted on AISI 316 stainless steel to improve its tribological performance. Tribological behaviors of ground 316 substrates, plasma-nitrided 316 (PN-316), surface-textured 316 (ST-316), and duplex-treated 316 (DT-316) in air and under grease lubrication were investigated using a pin-on-disc rotary tribometer against counterparts of high...

STUDY THE WEAR MECHANISM OF A PLASMA ELECTROLYTIC NITROCARBURISED (PEN/C) 316L AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL

The wear mechanism of plasma electrolytic nitrocarburised (PEN/C) 316L stainless steel samples was studied after a pin on disc wear test. The surface morphology of samples after application of PEN/C process was studied using scanning electron microscope technique. The sliding tracks resulting from the wear tests on the treated specimens indicated no signs of plastic deformation and adhesive wea...

Duplex Surface Treatment of AISI 1045 Steel via Plasma Nitriding of Titanized Layer

In this Study, surface of medium carbon steel (AISI 1045) was modified by titanizing followed by plasma nitriding. Titanizing was performed using pack cementation method, in a pack mixture of ferrotitanium, ammonium chloride and alumina, at 1223 K for 45 and 180 min.  Plasma-nitriding was conducted at two temperatures of 803 and 823 K for 5 h, in a gas mixture of 75%N2+25%H2. The samples were c...

Compressibility of 304 Stainless Steel Powder Metallurgy Materials Reinforced with 304 Short Stainless Steel Fibers

Powder metallurgy (P/M) technique is usually used for manufacturing porous metal materials. However, some P/M materials are limitedly used in engineering for their performance deficiency. A novel 304 stainless steel P/M material was produced by a solid-state sintering of 304 stainless steel powders and 304 short stainless steel fibers, which were alternately laid in layers according to mass rat...
